Maintenance of Leather Bags

  • Leather is a natural product:

    A leather bag is made from high-quality, vegetable or semi-vegatable tanned leather. This leather is durable, strong and develops more character over time. Because leather is a natural material, color variations, small scratches and signs of use may appear. Exposure to light, moisture and daily use can make the leather darker or lighter. This natural aging process is part of the charm of genuine leather and gives each bag a unique look.

  • Every leather bag is unique:

    No two leather bags are exactly the same. Natural grain patterns, small imperfections and subtle color differences are part of the material and highlight the authenticity of handcrafted leather. These characteristics contribute to the timeless and distinctive appearance of any leather bags.

  • Leather may rub off:

    Leather can slightly rub off in the beginning, especially with oiled leather or brightly colored leather bags. This may transfer onto light-colored clothing. We recommend being extra careful during the first period of use. Gently rub the bag with a dry cloth and treat it with a protective leather spray to reduce the risk of color transfer.

  • Protection and prevention:

    For optimal protection of your leather bag, we recommend treating it immediately after purchase with a high-quality leather protection spray. Repeat this every 3 to 4 months. A good waterproofing spray helps protect the leather from moisture, dirt and daily wear. Always let a wet bag dry naturally and avoid direct sunlight, radiators and other heat sources.

  • Cleaning leather:

    For daily care, wipe your leather bag with a soft, dry cloth. Remove stains by gently dabbing them with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid rubbing, as this can push dirt or grease deeper into the leather. For grease stains, use cornstarch or talcum powder: let it sit overnight and brush it off gently the next day.

  • Conditioning and care:

    To keep the leather soft and strong, we recommend treating your bag 1 to 2 times per year with a neutral leather balm, leather wax or a small amount of leather grease. Always use products sparingly and test them first on an inconspicuous area to avoid unwanted color changes.

  • What to avoid:

    Never use aggressive cleaning agents, chemicals or all-purpose cleaners on leather bags. These can damage the natural protective layer of the leather. We also advise against using petroleum jelly, as it can clog the pores of the leather and cause long-term damage.

  • Durability and character:

    Over time, your leather bag will only become more beautiful. With use, the leather develops a rich appearance and natural patina. This makes every bag personal, durable and timeless. With proper care, your leather bag will remain in excellent condition for years.
